Ride in the Front on Splash Mountain if You Want to Get Wet
“Hot day at Magic Kingdom? Ride in the front on Splash Mountain. it is absolutely the place to be if you want to cool down by getting wet.”
Splash Mountain is one of those rides where it doesn’t look like you’d get all that wet, but you’d be surprised. It’s definitely one of those great rides on a really hot day when you want to cool off by getting dosed with some water. The fact that it’s air conditioned on the inside parts of the ride and the length of it means that it is a great way to cool down while still having fun. The front seats on the ride are absolutely the places where you will get the most wet, though there are some tricks that Disney employs to make sure everyone has some water fun:
The big drop is, of course, the main place where water will splash up into your seat. But while rounding the bend after the big drop, watch out: a jet of water splashes out to the side whenever another group goes down that big drop–and it is a LOT of water. Depending on the timing you can miss this, but more often than not you’ll get soaked!
There used to be one other place where timing was everything: after the big drop, after you round the corner, there’s a straight shot where sometimes the boats get backed up. To the right is a little waterfall that is really just a trickle but used to sometimes act like a great flood had just happen as it got bigger and bigger and then soaked the people on the right side of the boat! I say “used to” because I only had this happen once and it was awhile ago. I’ve never seen it happen since, but if you have, let me know! I’m always a little sad that I never see it anymore because it was a great surprise at the very end of the ride–and hilarious to see happen to other people ahead of you.
And sometimes you don’t even need to be on the ride to experience the “splash” part of Splash Mountain: standing on the bridge in front of the ride you can sometimes get hit with a plume of water if you aren’t paying attention. Which is also hilarious to watch happen to the unsuspecting people walking by trying to get to Thunder Mountain!
