Bring Shiny Pennies for Penny Presses
“Bring shiny pennies to use in all the penny presses in the parks! They make great, cheap souvenirs!”
Now, I have never been one to like the whole pressed pennies thing (I am told “elongated” is the correct term, but I’m old school about being wrong) but I have noticed on our trips to the parks kids go crazy for these things. And my fiance, Adam, is no different. The penny pressing machines are located almost randomly throughout the parks so it can be a fun hunt just to find them. Each one gives an assortment of characters you can pick to put on them and each one has a different set, so you do have to travel around to collect them all. The parks even sell books in the gift shops where you can display all your pressed penny finds and while I am no expert here, I imagine that they help you know when you have collected the whole set. At least, that would make sense to me. But what do I know, I don’t even use their correct names.
To get the best bang for your…er…one cent, make sure you use really shiny pennies. If you hit the bank before you go (yes, yes, people still go to banks, it’s not all done over the internet) you can get some rolls of new pennies which make for a convenient way to carry them around so they don’t get all scuffed in pockets and purses. Excluding the purchase of a book to display them in, they’re a really cheap way to bring back souvenirs and a wonderful new way to see the parks by trying to hunt down every pressed penny machine!
