As you may have noticed, I’m giving your usual tips writer a week off while I do a week of tips about Disney Hollywood Studios! I might even give her a second week off and do some tips about Star Wars Weekends next, but I’ve got some nice pictures of Epcot and Main Street USA that are demanding use, so who can say?

Fantasmic! isn’t my wife’s favorite show, but she appreciates that I love all of the fireworks at Disney enough to want to see each of them at least once. When it comes to Fantasmic! though, the fact that it isn’t always shown every night means the lines can get pretty long pretty fast. An easy way around that is to get one of the Fantasmic! Meal Packages. Take in lunch or dinner at Mama Melrose or the Brown Derby (their Cobb salad could be the best Cobb salad I’ve ever eaten) or dinner at Hollywood and Vine, then show up at the special meal package entrance to the Hollywood Amphitheater a good half an hour before the show and you’re set. The entrance is near Beauty and the Beast on Sunset Boulevard. I’ll give you a hint, it’s where there isn’t a gigantic line.

The best part is that the package can be bought with the Disney Dining Plan and it doesn’t cost any more meal points than you’d normally spend to eat at Mama Melrose and Hollywood and Vine (1 table service voucher) or the Brown Derby (2 table service vouchers) so you get a great meal, a guaranteed seat and it doesn’t cost you a dime extra. How awesome is that? 

And just cos I love Fantasmic!, here’s an extra tip. Want to double up on fireworks during the off season? If it’s a Fantasmic! night and you’re willing to hoof it, watch IllumiNations near the International Gateway. Once the show’s over, start jogging. You can grab a boat if you’re lucky, but they’re going to full up fast and everyone knows a properly prepared Disney World barnstormer is prepared, at any given moment, to run. So jog to the Studios and slip into line for the 10:30 showing of Fantasmic! You may need to cool off with a Mickey’s Premium after the run. Go ahead, you earned it, fireworks fan!
